  • He was ill. Yet he agreed to be with us during the inaugural function.
  • Although / though he was ill, he agreed to be with us during the inaugural function.

Another example is given below.

  • Despite the high cost of living, many people find life in the city quite attractive.

We can express the same idea in the following ways.

  • In spite of the high cost of living, many people find life in the city quite attractive.
  • Though the cost of living is high, many people find life in the city quite attractive.
