Reading comprehension activity for class 3

Read the following passage and answer the questions below.

Once upon a time there lived a farmer and his wife. They had a big farm. There were a lot of hens, geese and doves in his farm. His favourite was a goose. It was no ordinary goose. It was a special goose that laid a golden egg every day.

The farmer sold the golden egg for a lot of money. Soon he became very rich, but he was not happy. He had become greedy. He wanted to make more money at once.

He told his wife, ‘Our goose lays just one golden egg a day. Let’s cut her open and get all the eggs at once. Then we will have a lot of money.’

His wife was a good woman. She told him not to kill the goose, but he wouldn’t listen to her.

He went inside the house and brought a big knife. He caught the goose from the farm and cut its body. There was not even a single golden egg in its stomach. The farmer repented his mistake.
