Simple Past vs. Past Perfect Tense Worksheet For Class 9

This grammar work is based on NCERT class 9 workbook Unit 2 Tenses.

When we talk about two past events in the same sentence, the past perfect is used for the earlier of the two actions and the simple past is used for the latter.

  • He said that he had been to that place before.
  • She had started shouting before I said a word.
  • The thieves had already escaped before the police reached the place.

Simple past vs. Past perfect tense worksheet

Fill in the blanks with the simple past and past perfect tense forms of the verbs. In some sentences, you may have to use the passive form of the verb.

Past perfect passive form – had been sold
