Simple Present Tense Worksheet

The simple present tense is used to talk about our likes, dislikes, preferences, beliefs, habits and routines. This is also the tense form that we use to talk about general truths and facts. Study the examples given below.

  • The earth moves round the sun. (A fact)
  • Heat expands bodies. (A fact)
  • I love cats.
  • My sister writes stories for children.
  • She wakes up at 5 am.
  • I read a lot.

We make the simple present tense using the first form of the verb (v1). Note that if the subject is a singular noun/pronoun, the verb takes the marker -s in the simple present tense.

  • I write stories.
  • She writes stories.
  • Raju writes with his left hand.

In the simple present tense, we make questions and negatives with do or does. Use do when the subject is a plural noun or pronoun. Use do when the subject is the first person singular pronoun I. Use does when the subject is a singular noun or pronoun.

  • I know the answer.
  • I do not know the answer.
  • Do you know the answer?
  • Does he know the answer?
  • She works in a bank.
  • She does not work in a bank.
  • Does she work in a bank?
