{"id":1244,"date":"2016-04-11T15:57:28","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T15:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/?p=1244"},"modified":"2016-04-11T15:57:28","modified_gmt":"2016-04-11T15:57:28","slug":"uses-of-the-apostrophe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/uses-of-the-apostrophe\/","title":{"rendered":"Uses of the apostrophe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The main use of apostrophe is to show that a person or thing belongs to somebody.<\/p>\n<p>We indicate this by adding an apostrophe and \u2018s\u2019 to singular nouns.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is<strong> John\u2019s<\/strong> laptop.<\/li>\n<li>He is my <strong>brother\u2019s<\/strong> colleague.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the case of plural nouns ending in \u2018s\u2019 only an apostrophe is added.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>students\u2019 hostel<\/strong> is not far from here.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When the plural noun does not end in \u2018s\u2019, we use an apostrophe and \u2018s\u2019 to form the possessive form.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They have a nice collection of <strong>children\u2019s<\/strong> books.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Apostrophe is also used to show that letters or numbers have been omitted.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I\u2019m not interested in this.
