These are fixed expressions that are special to one language. The problem with idioms is that you cannot guess their meaning easily.<\/p>\n<p>This section deals with the most common idioms in English. Each idiom is followed by its definition or meaning and example sentences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Common English Idioms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I couldn\u2019t agree with you more<\/strong> = I entirely agree with you<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018People are obsessed with celebrities. Don\u2019t you think it is funny?\u2019 \u2018I couldn\u2019t agree with you more.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Most politicians are corrupt.\u2019 \u2018I couldn\u2019t agree with you more. They are only interested in their welfare.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018The government should ban all firecrackers.\u2019 \u2018I couldn\u2019t agree with you more.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m sick of it<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are sick of something, you don\u2019t like it anymore.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I don\u2019t know why she should behave so rudely. I\u2019m sick of it.<\/li>\n<li>Maya is a very arrogant. I\u2019m getting sick of her temper tantrums.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m sick of eating the same stuff for dinner every day.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m sick of eating burgers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>You made it big<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To <em>make it big<\/em> is to become highly successful.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I can\u2019t believe that she earns a six figure salary. She\u2019s made it big!<\/li>\n<li>Man, you made it big. Your parents have every reason to be proud of you.<\/li>\n<li>Rahul owns six apartments and a fleet of cars. He has really made it big.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Back to the grind<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be back to the grind is to get back to work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018I\u2019ve to submit this assignment before evening.\u2019 \u2018If that\u2019s the case, you had better get back to the grind.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018OK everybody, lunch break is over. Now get back to the grind.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>I blew it<\/strong> = I missed my opportunity<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018Did you get that job?\u2019 \u2018No mate, I blew it.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018So did you go on a date with her?\u2019 \u2018No. She seemed interested, but I guess in the end I blew it.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Everyone expected Rahul to find a place in the national team, but he blew it.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pie in the Sky<\/strong> = an unrealistic dream<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I have always wanted to be a great writer, but I think that dream was a pie in the sky. I have not been able to get even a short story published.<\/li>\n<li>\u2018Shradha has moved to Mumbai to become an actress but I don\u2019t think things are working out for her.\u2019 \u2018Seems like her dreams are just a pie in the sky.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A hidden agenda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When somebody has a hidden agenda, they have a secret motive for doing something.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It would be foolish of us to believe everything that she says.
