Storyline: Karan wants to buy a pair of new shoes for himself, so he goes into a shoe store.<\/p>\n

Shopkeeper: Can I help you?<\/p>\n

Karan: Yes. I want to buy a pair of shoes.<\/p>\n

Shopkeeper: What size are you?<\/p>\n

Karan: Size eight.<\/p>\n

Shopkeeper:\u00a0 (pulls out a pair of shoes from the rack ) How about these?<\/p>\n

Karan: Can I try them on?<\/p>\n

Shopkeeper: Sure.<\/p>\n

Karan: (tries the shoes on): Yes, they\u2019re my size, but I didn\u2019t quite like the colour. Do you have these shoes in black?<\/p>\n

Shopkeeper: I\u2019m not sure. If you can\u2019t find them on the rack, they\u2019re probably out of stock. Anyway, I\u2019ll look in the storeroom.<\/p>\n

Karan: Thanks.<\/p>\n

Shopkeeper: I\u2019ll be back in a minute.<\/p>\n

Karan: OK.<\/p>\n

Conversation 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

That’s a rip-off!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Storyline: Amar bought a used computer for Rs 15,000 without realizing that he had been ripped off.<\/p>\n

Ganesh: How much did you pay for it?<\/p>\n

Amar: 15,000.<\/p>\n

Ganesh: 15,000 rupees for a piece of junk like that? That\u2019s a rip-off!<\/p>\n

Amar: What do you mean by that?<\/p>\n

Ganesh: Don\u2019t you understand? Now you can get a brand new computer for less than 15,000. Then why do you have to buy a used one at that price point?<\/p>\n

Amar: Oh. I guess I really got ripped off.<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Hello, are you being helped?<\/p>\n

Gautam: No, I\u2019m not. I\u2019d like to buy a shirt.<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: All our shirts are in this section. What do you think of this one here? It\u2019s made of good quality denim.<\/p>\n

Gautam: Hm, it looks nice, but I\u2019d like to buy something cool for the summer.<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: OK. Then I\u2019ll show you some cotton shirts. How about this one?<\/p>\n

Gautam: I think that\u2019s what I want. How much is it?<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: It\u2019s\u2026 799 rupees.<\/p>\n

Gautam: Hm, it\u2019s a little expensive. Can I get a discount?<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Well, actually we offer the best prices so I don\u2019t think we can give you any discount.<\/p>\n

Gautam: That\u2019s too bad. (Thinks for a few seconds) Hm, it\u2019s OK. I\u2019ll take it. Could you wrap it up for me?<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Sure. Is there anything else you\u2019d like to buy?<\/p>\n

Gautam: No, that\u2019s it. Thank you.<\/p>\n

Storyline: Gauri walks into a boutique. She is not exactly keen on buying anything. She just wants to browse.<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Hi, can I help you?<\/p>\n

Gauri: No, thanks. I\u2019m just browsing.<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: It\u2019s okay. If you need any help, just let me know.<\/p>\n

Gauri: Sure.<\/p>\n

(She walks around the store. Suddenly a salwar suit attracts her and she calls the sales assistant.)<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Yes, Ma\u2019am.<\/p>\n

Gauri: I really liked this salwar suit. How much is it?<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Hm, it\u2019s \u20261,200 rupees.<\/p>\n

Gauri: Oh, that\u2019s a lot of money for a salwar suit. Do you think I could get a discount?<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Well, we don\u2019t usually give discounts, but you\u2019re a regular customer so we\u2019ll take 10% off the price. That\u2019s the best we can offer.<\/p>\n

Gauri: That\u2019s good. Can you pack it for me?<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Sure. Is there anything else you\u2019d like to buy?<\/p>\n

Gauri: No, that should be it. Thanks.<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: OK. I\u2019ll show you another pair. (Sales assistant pulls out another pair of shoes.) What do you think of these? They\u2019ve got high heels.<\/p>\n

Customer: Yes, they\u2019ve, but they just don\u2019t seem right for me. Could you show me another pair of high-heeled shoes with pointed toes?<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Sure. How about these?<\/p>\n

Customer: Yes, these are exactly what I want. Can I try them on?<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: Certainly.<\/p>\n

Customer: OK. These shoes fit me well. I\u2019ll buy them.<\/p>\n

Sales assistant: How would you like to pay, Sir?<\/p>\n

Customer: Do you accept credit cards?<\/p>\n
