Study the examples given below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Book (singular) -&gt; books (plural)<\/li>\n<li>Flower -&gt; flowers<\/li>\n<li>Table -&gt; tables<\/li>\n<li>Father -&gt; fathers<\/li>\n<li>Student \u2013 students<\/li>\n<li>Box -&gt; boxes<\/li>\n<li>Fox \u2013 foxes<\/li>\n<li>Boss -&gt; bosses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When the singular noun ends in \u2013f or \u2013fe, we form the plural by adding \u2013ves after removing the final \u2013f or \u2013fe.<\/p>\n<p>Study the examples given below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leaf -&gt; leaves (We removed the \u2013f and then added \u2013ves to form the plural)<\/li>\n<li>Knife -&gt; knives (We removed the \u2013fe and then added \u2013ves to form the plural.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More examples are given below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shelf -&gt; shelves<\/li>\n<li>Elf -&gt; elves<\/li>\n<li>Wife -&gt; wives<\/li>\n<li>Life -&gt; lives<\/li>\n<li>Half \u2013&gt; halves<\/li>\n<li>Loaf -&gt; loaves<\/li>\n<li>Calf -&gt; calves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are some exceptions to this rule. We can form the plural form of some singular nouns ending in \u2013f, -ffe or \u2013ff by simply adding \u2013s. Examples are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Giraffe \u2013 giraffes<\/li>\n<li>Roof \u2013 roofs<\/li>\n<li>Chief -&gt; chiefs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some nouns form their plurals in both ways.
