The verb indicates the time of the action. It shows when something took place, takes place or will take place.<\/p>\n

English has three tenses: past, present and future.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each tense is divided into simple, continuous and perfect tenses. <\/strong>We will learn about simple tenses in this lesson.<\/p>\n

Simple tenses<\/h2>\n

We use the simple present tense to talk about a habitual activity. Study the examples given below.<\/p>\n

  • I get up<\/strong> at 6 o\u2019clock.<\/li>\n
  • Muslims fast<\/strong> during the month of Ramadan.<\/li>\n
  • The sun rises<\/strong> in the east.<\/li>\n
  • Birds live<\/strong> in nests.<\/li>\n
  • My mother goes<\/strong> to the temple every day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The simple present tense is also used to talk about known facts or pre-planned future events.<\/p>\n

    • The school reopens<\/strong> on June 1.<\/li>\n
    • Eid comes<\/strong> a full thirty days after Ramadan.<\/li>\n

      Simple past tense<\/h2>\n

      The simple past tense is used to say that something happened in the past.<\/p>\n

      • There was<\/strong> a commotion at the wedding.<\/li>\n
      • She wore<\/strong> a white dress to the party.<\/li>\n
      • The boy answered<\/strong> all the questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        The simple past tense is also used for the narratives in stories.<\/p>\n

          Simple future tense<\/h2>\n

          We use the simple future tense to make simple predictions about the future.<\/p>\n

          • Supriya will bring<\/strong> her violin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            The simple future tense is also used to announce decisions that were taken at the moment of speaking.<\/p>\n
