That would <strong>mean completing<\/strong> your homework now.<\/li>\n<li>I <strong>mean to work<\/strong> out every day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The verbs r<strong>emember, forget and mean<\/strong> can be followed by infinitives (to + verb forms) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perfectyourenglish.com\/grammar\/-ing-forms.htm\">ing forms<\/a>. The meanings are different. Learn more about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perfectyourenglish.com\/grammar\/gerunds-after-verbs.htm\">verbs that can be followed by ing forms here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After <strong>mean<\/strong> we use an ing form to express the idea that one thing leads to another.<\/p>\n<p>We use a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perfectyourenglish.com\/grammar\/to-infinitives.htm\"><strong>to-infinitive<\/strong><\/a> after<strong> remember and mean<\/strong> to refer to future action.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.perfectyourenglish.com\/grammar\/infinitives-forms.htm\">An infinitive<\/a> is used after regret to announce bad news.<\/p>\n<p>After certain verbs we use an ing form to make a general statement. The to-infinitive is used to talk about something that happened on a specific occasion.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They have <strong>stopped selling<\/strong> meat now. (This is a general statement)<\/li>\n<li>On my way to school, I <strong>stopped<\/strong> at the library <strong>to rent<\/strong> a book. (No specific reference to time.)<\/li>\n<li>I <strong>tried to call<\/strong> him in the morning.
