Adverbs are words like kindly, gently, there and tomorrow. There are mainly three types of adverbs.<\/p>\n

  1. Adverbs of time<\/li>\n
  2. Adverbs of manner<\/li>\n
  3. Adverbs of place<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Adverbs of time<\/h3>\n

    Adverbs of time tell us when the actions mentioned in the sentence take place.<\/p>\n

    Examples are: today, tomorrow, now, then, last month etc.<\/em><\/p>\n

    • We are leaving tomorrow.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • I want to go now.<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • We visited them last month.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Adverbs of manner<\/h3>\n

      Adverbs of manner show the manner in which the actions are performed. Examples are: bravely, merrily, softly, loudly, silently, happily<\/em> etc.<\/p>\n

      • She sat there silently.<\/strong><\/li>\n
      • He laughed merrily.<\/strong><\/li>\n
      • Why are you shouting loudly?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Adverbs of place<\/h3>\n

        Adverbs of place show where the actions take place.<\/p>\n

        • It is raining outside.<\/strong><\/li>\n
        • The children are playing upstairs.<\/strong><\/li>\n
        • We have been living here<\/strong> for ten years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Formation of adverbs<\/h3>\n

          Manner adverbs are usually formed from adjectives. Most of them end in \u2013ly<\/strong>. Examples are given below.<\/p>\n

          Kind (adjective) -> kindly (adverb)<\/p>\n

          Soft -> softly<\/p>\n

          Eager -> eagerly<\/p>\n

          Pleasant -> pleasantly<\/p>\n

          Brave -> bravely<\/p>\n

          Happy -> happily<\/p>\n

          Quiet -> quietly<\/p>\n

          Sad -> sadly<\/p>\n

          Slow -> slowly<\/p>\n

          Proud -> proudly<\/p>\n

          Light -> lightly<\/p>\n

          Rude -> rudely<\/p>\n

          Generous -> generously<\/p>\n

          Merry -> merrily<\/p>\n

          Easy -> easily<\/p>\n

          Lazy -> lazily<\/p>\n

          Neat -> neatly<\/p>\n
