These are adjectives. An adjective is a word used to say something about a noun.<\/p>\n<h2>Kinds of adjectives<\/h2>\n<p>There are different kinds of adjectives:<\/p>\n<p>1) Adjectives of quality<br \/>\n2) Adjectives of quantity<br \/>\n3) Adjectives of number<br \/>\n4) Distributive adjectives<br \/>\n5) Demonstrative adjectives<br \/>\n6) Interrogative adjectives<br \/>\n7) Possessive adjectives<\/p>\n<h3>Adjectives of Quality<\/h3>\n<p>Adjectives of quality describe the kind, quality or characteristic of a person, animal, place or thing.<\/p>\n<p>He is a clever boy.<br \/>\nShe is a brilliant student.<br \/>\nHe is an honest man.<br \/>\nThe fish tasted awful.<br \/>\nThe night grew dark.<br \/>\nThe milk turned sour.<br \/>\nI met an old beggar.<br \/>\nThe young woman had attractive looks.<\/p>\n<p>Adjectives formed from proper nouns are also called adjectives of quality. Examples are: Persian carpets, Indian flag, British parliament etc.<\/p>\n<h2>Adjectives of Quantity<\/h2>\n<p>Adjectives of quantity describe how much of a thing is meant. Examples are: <em>some, any, little, enough, all, much etc.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We need some rice.<br \/>\nHe drank all the milk.<br \/>\nIs there any milk in the bottle?<\/p>\n<h2>Adjectives of Number<\/h2>\n<p>Adjectives of number indicate how many persons or things are meant. Examples are: few, many, several, two, five, second, fifth etc.<\/p>\n<p>Two girls came.<br \/>\nShe is the first woman to climb Mt. Everest.<br \/>\nHe has written many books.<\/p>\n<h2>Distributive Adjectives<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Each, every, either and neither<\/strong> are called distributive adjectives.<\/p>\n<p>She had a child hanging onto each hand.<br \/>\nI have invited every friend I have.<\/p>\n<h2>Demonstrative adjectives<\/h2>\n<p><strong>This, that, these and those<\/strong> are called demonstrative adjectives.<\/p>\n<p>Bring me <strong>that<\/strong> chair.<br \/>\nWho is <strong>this<\/strong> girl?<br \/>\n<strong>Those<\/strong> mangoes are all ripe.<\/p>\n<h2>Interrogative Adjectives<\/h2>\n<p>Interrogative adjectives are used with nouns to ask questions. Examples are: <em>which, what, whose etc.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Which<\/strong> shirt shall I buy?<br \/>\n<strong>Whose<\/strong> son is he?<\/p>\n<h2>Possessive adjectives<\/h2>\n<p>Possessive adjectives indicate possession. Examples are: <em>my, his, her, our, their, your and its.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He is<strong> my<\/strong> father.<br \/>\nShe is<strong> our<\/strong> teacher.<br \/>\nIs this <strong>your<\/strong> bag?<\/p>\n<h2>Adjectives Exercise<\/h2>\n<p>A list of words is given below. For example, the adjective foolish is formed from the noun fool. Similarly the adjective courageous is formed from the noun courage.<\/p>\n<p>More examples are given below.<\/p>\n<p>Boy (noun): boyish (adjective)<br \/>\nCare: careful<br \/>\nHope: hopeful<br \/>\nShame: shameless<br \/>\nSense: senseless<br \/>\nSilk: silken<br \/>\nDirt: dirty<br \/>\nGold: golden<br \/>\nGlory: glorious<br \/>\nMan: manly<br \/>\nKing: kingly<\/p>\n<p>Some adjectives are formed from verbs.<\/p>\n<p>Talk (verb): talkative (adjective)<br \/>\nMove (verb): movable (adjective)<\/p>\n<p>Adjectives can also be formed from other adjectives.<\/p>\n<p>Black (adjective): blackish (adjective)<br \/>\nWhite (adjective): whitish (adjective)<br \/>\nSick (adjective): sickly (adjective)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read the following sentences.
