It can be placed before a noun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I saw a beautiful (adjective) girl (noun).<br>\nWe have a little house in the city. (Here the adjective little goes before the noun house.)<br>\nShe is a beautiful girl. (Here the adjective beautiful goes before the noun girl.)<br>\nIt was a pleasant surprise.<br>\nShe is a nice girl.<br>\nShe is a tall woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. It can be placed after a verb like be, seem, look, become and feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is clever.<br>\nShe looks happy.<br>\nShe is tall.<br>\nHe is kind.<br>\nThe boy couldn&#8217;t prove that he was honest.<br>\nShe was anxious to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. It can be compared either with \u2013er, -est or with more, most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Short -&gt; shorter -&gt; shortest<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smart -&gt; smarter -&gt; smartest<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kind -&gt; kinder -&gt; kindest<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pleasant -&gt; more pleasant -&gt; most pleasant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Careful -&gt; more careful -&gt; most careful<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is taller than her husband.<br>\nShe is more beautiful than her sister.<br>\nHe is smarter than you think.<br>\nIt was easier than I expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. It can take a degree modifier like very, too, rather and so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are so sweet.<br>\nShe is rather tall.<br>\nShe is very beautiful.<br>\nThe tea was too hot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adjective phrase<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A phrase constructed around an adjective as its head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as clever as Jan (head adjective clever)<br>\nbigger than Tokyo (head adjective bigger)<br>\na wealthy man (head adjective wealthy)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adjective clause<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A type of subordinate clause which does the work of an adjective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the thief <em>who stole the horse.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the sentence given above, the noun thief is qualified by the clause who stole the horse.
