Adverb particles do not take objects after them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She jumped<strong> down<\/strong> (preposition) the stairs (objective).<br>\nPlease sit <strong>down<\/strong> (adverb particle).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adverbs particles often join together with verbs to make two-word verbs.
