(time)<\/li><li>Do that again and I will hit you. (condition: = If you do that again &#8212;)<\/li><li>She won the prize and astonished them all. (cause and effect)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adjectives before a noun<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We do not usually use and between adjectives used before a noun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She has lovely long fingers. (NOT She has lovely and long fingers.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However,<strong> and<\/strong> is used when the adjectives refer to different parts of the same thing.<br>\ngreen and white socks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">And after try, be sure etc.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We often use try and\/be sure and &#8212; instead of try to\/be sure to &#8212; This is informal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I try and visit her often. (= I try to visit&#8212;)<\/li><li>Be sure and ask him about his new projects. (= Be sure to ask him about &#8212;)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that we only use this structure with the simple base forms <strong>try\/be sure<\/strong>. It is not possible with<strong> tries, tried, trying or am\/is\/are\/was\/were sure.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compare<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Try and eat something.<\/li><li>I tried to eat something.
