(NOT &#8212; except a few spelling mistakes.)<\/li>\n<li>Nobody came <b>except (for) <\/b>Peter and Alice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We use <b>except, <\/b> not except for, before prepositions and conjunctions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He is good-looking <b>except <\/b>when he smiles. (NOT &#8212; except for when he smiles.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note that we use object pronouns after <b>except (for). <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Everybody came <b>except him. <\/b> (NOT &#8212; except he.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Except + verb<\/h3>\n<p>A verb form after <b>except<\/b> usually depends on what came before. Infinitives are normally used without to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He <b>does nothing except <\/b>sleep all day.
