(NOT &#8212; go swimming to the river.)<\/li>\n<li>We <b>went shopping at <\/b>Harrods. (NOT &#8212; to Harrods.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"wrapper\">\n<section id=\"main\"><b>Go <\/b>(and not get) is used to talk about changes of colour. This is common in British English.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leaves <b>go brown<\/b> in autumn. (NOT Leaves get brown &#8212;)<\/li>\n<li>She <b>went green <\/b>with envy. (NOT She got green &#8212;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other examples are: <i>go white with anger\/ blue with cold\/ red with embarrassment <\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Turn<\/b> and <b>grow <\/b>can also be used in these cases. Note that <b>go<\/b> is more informal than <b>turn <\/b>and <b>grow<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Go <\/b>(and not usually get) is also used with adjectives in a number of common expressions that refer to changes for the worse.<\/p>\n<p>Examples are:<\/p>\n<p>People can go mad \/ crazy \/ deaf \/ blind \/ grey \/ bald etc.<br \/>\nHorses can go lame<br \/>\nMachines can go wrong<br \/>\nMeat, fish or vegetables can go bad<br \/>\nBeer, lemonade, musical instruments and car tyres can go flat<\/p>\n<h3>Cases where get is used<\/h3>\n<p>Get is also used with adjectives to talk about changes. For example we use <b>get<\/b> (and not go) with the adjectives <b>old, tired <\/b>and <b>ill<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I am <b>getting old<\/b>.
