It emphasizes the idea of concentrating. Note that you can <i>hear<\/i> something without wanting to, but you can only <i>listen to<\/i> something deliberately.<\/p>\n<p>Compare:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I <b>heard <\/b>them talking in the next room, but I didn\u2019t really <b>listen to <\/b>what they were saying.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Other differences<\/h3>\n<p>Note that <b>listen to <\/b>is mostly used to talk about experiences that are going on, in progress.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When she arrived, I was <b>listening to<\/b> the radio.
