(NOT I am knowing &#8212;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Know and know about\/of<\/h3>\n<p><b>Know + object<\/b> is used mainly to talk about knowledge that comes through direct personal experience. In other cases, we normally use <b>know about\/of, have heard of <\/b>or another structure.<\/p>\n<p>Compare:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018Do you <b>know<\/b> my brother?\u2019 \u2018No, I have never met him.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>We all <b>know about <\/b>Albert Einstein. (NOT We all know Albert Einstein.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>I know and I know it<\/h3>\n<p><b>I know <\/b>refers to facts &#8211; it could be completed by a<b> that-clause.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018You are late.\u2019 \u2018<b>I know. <\/b>\u2019 (= I know that I am late.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>I know it<\/b> refers to things &#8211; it replaces a noun.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018We went to a nice restaurant called Fire and Ice last night.\u2019 \u2018<b>I know it. <\/b>\u2019 (= I have heard of that restaurant.)<\/li>\n<li>\u2018We went to a nice restaurant called Fire and Ice last night.\u2019 \u2018<b>I know.<\/b>\u2019 (=I know that you went to that restaurant.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Know cannot be followed directly by an infinitive.
