Make <\/b>is a transitive verb. It can take one or two objects.<\/p>\n

  • She made me a nice dress. <\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    It is also possible to use an adjective <\/b>as object complement.<\/p>\n

    • She made his life miserable. <\/b><\/li>\n
    • Do I make you happy? <\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Make <\/b>can also be followed by object + infinitive<\/b>. In active structures, we normally use an infinitive without to.<\/p>\n

      • They made me wait. <\/b><\/li>\n
      • He made her cry. <\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        In passive structures the infinitive is used with to.<\/p>\n

        • I was made to wait.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Special uses of make<\/h2>\n

          Make<\/b> can be followed by an object + infinitive without to<\/b>.<\/p>\n
            \n
          • She made me wait. (NOT She made me waiting.) (NOT She made me to wait.)<\/li>\n
          • I made her cry. (NOT I made her crying.) (NOT I made her to cry.)<\/li>\n
          • They made him narrate the whole incidence. (NOT They made him to narrate the whole incidence.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            When these sentences are changed into the passive, we use the infinitive with to.<\/p>\n

              \n
            • I was made to wait.<\/li>\n
            • <\/li>\n
            • He was made to narrate the whole incidence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Make + object + object complement<\/h3>\n

              Make<\/b> can be followed by an object, with an adjective or noun referring to a change in the object.<\/p>\n

              Study the following sentence.<\/p>\n

              • I feel weak because of the illness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                The same idea can be expressed using make.<\/p>\n

                • The illness makes me feel weak.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  • We became angry on hearing his reply.<\/li>\n
                  • His replay made us angry.<\/li>\n
                  • They became impatient at the delay.<\/li>\n
                  • The delay made them impatient.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
