Will and shall<\/strong> are also used in offers, promises and orders. In these cases will usually expresses ideas such as willingness, wishes and intentions. Shall expresses obligation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Announcing decisions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Will and its contracted form &#8216;ll are often used to announce decisions as we make it.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OK, I will buy the tickets if you will buy the drinks.<\/li>\n<li>\u2018You can have it for $10.\u2019 \u2018OK, I will buy it.\u2019<\/li>\n<li>\u2018There is the door bell.\u2019 \u2018I will go.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Shall<\/strong> is not used in this way.<\/p>\n<p>We do not usually use <strong>will or shall<\/strong> to talk about decisions that have already been made. Instead, we use<strong> the present progressive or going to.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Now that we have agreed on a price, I am going to buy it. (More natural than \u2018\u2026 I will buy it\u2019)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To talk about refusals we use <strong>won\u2019t.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I won\u2019t go.<\/li>\n<li>He won\u2019t do it.<\/li>\n<li>It won\u2019t work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Giving instructions and orders<\/h3>\n<p>We can use will you\u2026? to ask people to do things.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Will you please come here?<\/li>\n<li>Will you move a bit?<\/li>\n<li>Will you please keep quiet?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In polite requests we use <strong>would you\u2026?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Compare:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Will you make me a cup of coffee? (An order or instruction)<\/li>\n<li>Would you make me a cup of coffee?
