(introducing Sally to John.)<\/li>\n<li>I don&#8217;t think you two know each other, do you? (introducing two strangers to each other.)<\/li>\n<li>Gautam, meet my friend Arjun. (introducing Arjun to Gautam.)<\/li>\n<li>John, I don&#8217;t think you&#8217;ve met Peter.<\/li>\n<li>I don&#8217;t think you know Alice<\/li>\n<li>May I introduce you to Mary?<\/li>\n<li>Mary, do you know Jane?<\/li>\n<li>Peter, I&#8217;d like you to meet John.<\/li>\n<li>Friends, can I introduce Mr John? (formal)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you are introduced to somebody, you usually say<strong><em> How do you do?<\/em><\/strong> Americans often say <strong><em>How are you?<\/em><\/strong> This is formal. In an informal style you can say <strong><em>Hello or Hi.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Note that <strong>How do you do?<\/strong> is not a question, and the normal reply is<strong> How do you do?<\/strong> People who are introduced often shake hands.<\/p>\n<p>You may introduce yourself saying My name is \u2026 or I am \u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My name is Manju. OR I am Manju.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Example conversation<\/h3>\n<p>Here is a short introductory conversation:<\/p>\n<p>John (to Peter): Peter, I&#8217;d like you to meet Mary.<br \/>\nPeter (to Mary): How do you do?<br \/>\nMary (to Peter): How do you do.<br \/>\nJohn (to Peter): Mary is my cousin.<\/p>\n<p>When somebody is introduced to you, it is also common to greet that person with It&#8217;s a pleasure to meet you or Pleased to meet you.<\/p>\n<p>John: Peter, I&#8217;d like you to meet Mary.<br \/>\nPeter (to Mary): It&#8217;s a pleasure to meet you.<br \/>\nMary (to Peter): How do you do.<br \/>\nJohn: Mary is my cousin.<\/p>\n<p>John: Peter, I&#8217;d like you to meet Mary.<br \/>\nPeter (to Mary): How do you do?<br \/>\nMary (to Peter): Pleased to meet you.<br \/>\nJohn: Mary is my cousin.<\/p>\n<p>In informal situations, introductions are often made simply saying: This is (name).
