The\u00a0primary auxiliaries<\/b>\u00a0are of three kinds:\u00a0be,\u00a0do<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0have<\/b>. Each of them has different forms.<\/p>\n

Be<\/h3>\n

The auxiliary\u00a0be<\/b>\u00a0has five forms:\u00a0is, am, are, was<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0were<\/b>.\u00a0Be<\/b>\u00a0also has a\u00a0present participle (being)<\/b>\u00a0and a\u00a0past participle (been)<\/b>\u00a0form.<\/p>\n

  • He is<\/b>\u00a0working on a project.<\/li>\n
  • They are\u00a0<\/b>playing in the garden.<\/li>\n

  • He was<\/b>\u00a0waiting for her.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Do<\/h3>\n

    Do<\/b>\u00a0has three forms:\u00a0do, does<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0did.\u00a0<\/b>The forms\u00a0do<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0does<\/b>\u00a0are used to make questions and\u00a0negative sentences\u00a0in the\u00a0simple present tense.\u00a0Do<\/b>\u00a0is used with plural nouns and pronouns.\u00a0Does<\/b>\u00a0is used with singular nouns and pronouns.<\/p>\n

    • He\u00a0does not<\/b>\u00a0believe in ghosts.<\/li>\n
    • I\u00a0do not want<\/b>\u00a0to go.<\/li>\n
    • Does he want<\/b>\u00a0to go?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Did<\/b>\u00a0is used to make questions and negative sentences in the\u00a0simple past tense. Note that after do, does and did, we use the\u00a0infinitive without to.<\/p>\n

      • He\u00a0did not go<\/b>. (NOT He did not went.) (NOT He did not to go.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Have<\/h3>\n

        Have<\/b>\u00a0has three forms:\u00a0have, has<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0had<\/b>.\u00a0Have<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0has<\/b>\u00a0are used to make the\u00a0present perfect<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0perfect continuous tense<\/b>\u00a0forms.\u00a0Have<\/b>\u00a0is used with plural nouns and pronouns.\u00a0Has<\/b>\u00a0is used with singular nouns and pronouns.<\/p>\n

        • I have finished<\/b>\u00a0the job.<\/li>\n
        • She has seen<\/b>\u00a0better days.<\/li>\n
        • We have been waiting<\/b>\u00a0for ages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Had<\/b>\u00a0is used to make the past perfect and perfect continuous tense forms.<\/p>\n

          • I\u00a0had<\/b>\u00a0visited them when I was in Mumbai.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Have<\/b>\u00a0is also used to talk about possession, relationships and other ideas.<\/p>\n
