They go in front of nouns or noun phrases. There are two types of articles &#8211; <strong>definite article (the) and indefinite article (a\/an)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally speaking, a singular countable noun always takes an article with it. Plural and uncountable nouns do not normally take articles unless we are talking about people or things in general. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Study the examples given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I have adopted <strong>a cat<\/strong>. (Here the singular countable noun cat takes the article a with it.)<\/li><li>Cats are adorable creatures. (No article is used because we are talking about cats in general.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I adopted <strong>the kittens<\/strong> that I found in my backyard. (We used the article the with the plural noun kittens here because we are talking about particular kittens.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Worksheet <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fill in the blanks with an appropriate article. In some cases, no article is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She works in &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. Canada.<\/li><li>She works in &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. country in &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. Middle East.<\/li><li>I am tired of listening to his &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; complaints.<\/li><li>She is &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. chatterbox.<\/li><li>I don&#8217;t want anyone to give me &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. advice.<\/li><li>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. parents of &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; missing boy looked distraught. <\/li><li>I want to talk to &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. principal. <\/li><li>She doesn&#8217;t have &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. job.<\/li><li>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; age brings &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..<\/li><li>You should see &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; doctor.<\/li><li>What did you do with &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. money you borrowed from me?<\/li><li>Does &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; money buy &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; happiness?<\/li><li>I am &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. happiest person in &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. world.<\/li><li>I went to &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; nice restaurant yesterday.<\/li><li>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. restaurant where we had dinner yesterday was not very expensive.<\/li><li>I want to buy &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. larger house.<\/li><li>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; house where I live is very small. <\/li><li>I have invited all &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. friends I have.<\/li><li>We are throwing &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; party next week.<\/li><li>It is &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; complicated situation to be in. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Answers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>No article (We do normally use articles before the names of countries. There are some exceptions. Examples are: the USA, the UK and the UAE.)<\/li><li>a, the (We do not mention which country it is.
