An auxiliary verb is used with other verbs to form various tense forms. The verb <strong>be<\/strong> mainly has seven forms &#8211; <em>is, am, are, was, were, been<\/em> and <em>being<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When <em>is, am, are, was<\/em> and <em>were<\/em> are used with ing forms of other verbs, we get continuous tense forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples are given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I <strong>am drawing<\/strong> a picture.<\/li><li>He <strong>is reading<\/strong> a detective novel.<\/li><li>She <strong>is getting <\/strong>ready for the shoot.<\/li><li>They <strong>were waiting <\/strong>anxiously.<\/li><li>He <strong>was making <\/strong>a clay model.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When <em>is, am, are, was<\/em> and <em>were <\/em>are used with the past participle forms of other verbs, we get passive verb forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I <strong>was shocked<\/strong> by the news.<\/li><li>They <strong>were terrified<\/strong> by the noise.<\/li><li>He <strong>was shaken<\/strong> by the incident.<\/li><li>I <strong>was bitten <\/strong>by the dog.<\/li><li>We were invited to their party.<\/li><li>It <strong>is known <\/strong>to us.<\/li><li>I <strong>am convinced<\/strong>. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The form <strong>been<\/strong> is used with <strong>has, have <\/strong>or <strong>had<\/strong> to form passive forms of perfect tenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>He <strong>has been dismissed<\/strong>.<\/li><li>She <strong>has been relieved<\/strong> of her duties.<\/li><li>The results <strong>have been declared<\/strong>.<\/li><li>The prizes<strong> have been distributed<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The form <strong>being<\/strong> is used to make the passive verb forms of continuous tenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She <strong>is mopping<\/strong> the floor. (Present continuous tense &#8211; active voice)<\/li><li>The floor <strong>is being mopped<\/strong> by her.
