In this section we shall consider some of the basic sentence patterns in English.<\/p>\n<h2>Let\u2019s + Bare infinitive<\/h2>\n<p>This structure is used for making suggestions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Let\u2019s go.<\/li>\n<li>Let\u2019s wait.<\/li>\n<li>Let\u2019s start.<\/li>\n<li>Let\u2019s stop.<\/li>\n<li>Let\u2019s stop criticizing others.<\/li>\n<li>Let\u2019s do something.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Let\u2019s + have + noun<\/h2>\n<p>This structure is used for making suggestions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Let\u2019s have a drink.<\/li>\n<li>Let\u2019s have something to eat.<\/li>\n<li>Let\u2019s have a chat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Used to + bare infinitive<\/h2>\n<p>This structure is used to talk about past habits or things that used to happen continuously or frequently during a period in the past.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He used to play football in his youth.<\/li>\n<li>I used to read a lot.<\/li>\n<li>They used to visit us every week.<\/li>\n<li>He used to smoke.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Be + used to + gerund\/noun<\/h2>\n<p>This structure is used to talk about something that you are familiar with so that it no longer seems new or strange to you.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I am used to waiting for buses.<\/li>\n<li>We are used to working long hours.<\/li>\n<li>Eventually he got used to the smells and sounds of the city.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Needn\u2019t + Bare infinitive<\/h2>\n<p>This structure is used to say that something is\/was not necessary. (= I don\u2019t want to talk to her.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Going to + bare infinitive<\/h2>\n<p>Going to shows intention. If you are going to do something, you intend to do it in the future.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I am going to get a good job. (= I intend to get a good job.)<\/li>\n<li>He is going to resign. (= He intends to resign.)<\/li>\n<li>She is going to have a word with her boss.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>That + Adjective<\/h2>\n<p>This structure shows degree. It is used to say that something is as good\/bad\/boring\/great\/expensive\/tiring etc., as the speaker suggests. Here that means very.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She is that beautiful. (= She is extremely beautiful.)<\/li>\n<li>The film is that boring. (= It is as boring as you can probably imagine.)<\/li>\n<li>It is not that good. (= not very good)<\/li>\n<li>It is not that expensive.
