(Active) (Subject \u2013 she; verb \u2013 is writing; object \u2013 a story)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We have already learned that the object of the&nbsp;active verb&nbsp;becomes the subject of the&nbsp;passive verb. Therefore when we change this sentence into the passive,&nbsp;<b>a story<\/b>&nbsp;becomes the subject. The&nbsp;continuous verb&nbsp;<b>is writing<\/b>&nbsp;becomes&nbsp;<b>is being written<\/b>&nbsp;in the passive voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A story&nbsp;<b>is being written<\/b>&nbsp;by her.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that the basic rules of&nbsp;subject-verb agreement&nbsp;are applicable in this case as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Compare:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I am writing a story. (Here the active verb am writing agrees with the subject I.)<\/li><li>A story is being written by me. (Here the passive verb \u2018is being written\u2019 agrees with the singular subject is.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More examples are given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>He&nbsp;<b>is drafting<\/b>&nbsp;the report. (Active)<\/li><li>The report&nbsp;<b>is being drafted&nbsp;<\/b>by him. (Passive)<\/li><li>Masons&nbsp;<b>are building&nbsp;<\/b>the house. (Active)<\/li><li>The house&nbsp;<b>is being built&nbsp;<\/b>by the masons. (Passive)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exercise<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Change the following active sentences into the passive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. She is writing a letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. He is watering the plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. I am writing a story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Mother is making a cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Rohan is building a toy car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. The dog is chasing the cat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7. Raju is repairing the bicycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8. Workers are painting the walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Answers<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. A letter<b>&nbsp;is being written<\/b>&nbsp;by her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. The plants<b>&nbsp;are being watered&nbsp;<\/b>by him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. A story<b>&nbsp;is being written<\/b>&nbsp;by me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.
