In a more\u00a0formal style, subject pronouns are used usually with\u00a0verbs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He is cleverer than\u00a0<b>she is.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>He earns more than\u00a0<b>I do.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We can use double comparatives (<b>\u2026er and \u2026er\u00a0<\/b>or\u00a0<b>more and more \u2026<\/b>) to say that something is changing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are getting\u00a0<b>fatter and fatter.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>We are going\u00a0<b>more and more\u00a0<\/b>slowly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The + comparative expression + subject + verb<\/h3>\n<p>We can use comparatives with\u00a0<b>the \u2026 the \u2026\u00a0<\/b>to say that things change or vary together. Note the word order in both clauses.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>The more<\/b>\u00a0I study,\u00a0<b>the less\u00a0<\/b>I learn. (NOT \u2026 I learn the less.)<\/li>\n<li><b>The older\u00a0<\/b>I get,\u00a0<b>the happier\u00a0<\/b>I am.
