These adjective \u2018complements\u2019 can be of different kinds. For example, some adjectives are followed by preposition + noun \/ -ing form. Others are followed by\u00a0infinitives.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She is\u00a0<b>interested in philosophy<\/b>. (Here the adjective interested is followed by a preposition + noun.)<\/li>\n<li>She is<b>\u00a0interested in learning\u00a0<\/b>philosophy. (Here the adjective interested is followed by a preposition + -ing form.)<\/li>\n<li>We are\u00a0<b>ready to start<\/b>. (Here the adjective ready is followed by an infinitive.)<\/li>\n<li>You don\u2019t look<b>\u00a0happy to see\u00a0<\/b>me.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the infinitive has its own subject, it is introduced by\u00a0<b>for<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She is\u00a0<b>anxious for her daughter to get\u00a0<\/b>a good job. (= She is anxious that her daughter should get a good job.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many adjectives can be followed by more than one kind of complement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I am\u00a0<b>pleased about your success<\/b>. (preposition + noun)<\/li>\n<li>I am\u00a0<b>pleased to accept\u00a0<\/b>this invitation. (to-infinitive)<\/li>\n<li>I am\u00a0<b>pleased that\u00a0<\/b>you are doing well in your studies. (that-clause)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note that if the adjective is followed by a noun, we put the complement after the noun.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He is a difficult person\u00a0<b>to work with<\/b>.
