For example, we can use&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/although-vs-though-class-10-english-grammar\/\"><b>though<\/b>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<b>although<\/b><\/a>. Other words or expressions that can be used to express concession or contrast include&nbsp;<b>notwithstanding, as, however, whatever, all the same, even if&nbsp;<\/b>and&nbsp;<b>at the same time<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><b>Though\u00a0<\/b>he is poor, he is honest.<\/li><li><b>Although\u00a0<\/b>he is poor in English, he does not work hard.<\/li><li><b>However<\/b>\u00a0steep the hill may be, we will be able to climb it.<\/li><li>Strong\u00a0<b>as<\/b>\u00a0he was, he could not beat his opponent.<\/li><li><b>Whatever<\/b>\u00a0may have been his intentions, he welcomed us cordially.<\/li><li>He is poor;\u00a0<b>all the same<\/b>\u00a0he is content with his lot.<\/li><li>He is hard up;\u00a0<b>at the same time<\/b>\u00a0he is generous.<\/li><li><b>Even if<\/b>\u00a0he is wrong, you shall not treat him like that.<\/li><li>He is very rich;\u00a0<b>nonetheless\u00a0<\/b>he is miserly.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More examples are given below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Though she is ill, she is cheerful.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We can express the same idea using <strong>but, however, nevertheless and nonetheless<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She is ill; however, she is cheerful. (Note that we put a full stop or a semicolon before however. Also, we put a comma after however.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She is ill; nevertheless, she is cheerful.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More examples are given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>However hard the task may be, we will be able to finish it.<\/li><li>No matter how hard the task may be, we will be able to finish it. <\/li><li>Although he is a popular actor, he has never received any critical acclaim.<\/li><li>He is a popular actor; however, he has never received by critical acclaim.<\/li><li>He is a popular actor; nonetheless, he has never received any critical acclaim.<\/li><li>She is quite beautiful; however, I don&#8217;t quite like her.<\/li><li>She is quite beautiful; nevertheless, I don&#8217;t quite like her.<\/li><li>It rained heavily; however, we still drove to Manali.<\/li><li>It rained heavily; nevertheless, we still drove to Manali.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes we express a concession or contrast by using an absolute participle followed by a noun clause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><b>Admitting&nbsp;<\/b><i>that he is right<\/i>, is it advisable to act on his advice?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The same sentence showing concession or contrast may be expressed in a number of ways.
