In some other expressions, we can leave them out.<\/p>\n<h2>After discuss, enter, marry, lack, resemble and approach<\/h2>\n<p>Verbs like\u00a0<b>discuss, enter, marry, lack, resemble\u00a0<\/b>and<b>\u00a0approach<\/b>\u00a0are normally followed by direct objects without prepositions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We\u00a0<b>discussed his plans.<\/b>\u00a0(NOT We discussed about his plans.)<\/li>\n<li>She<b>\u00a0married an old man.\u00a0<\/b>(NOT She married with an old man.)<\/li>\n<li>They\u00a0<b>entered the church.\u00a0<\/b>(NOT They entered into the church.)<\/li>\n<li>She\u00a0<b>lacks tact.\u00a0<\/b>(NOT She lacks of tact.)<\/li>\n<li>He<b>\u00a0resembles a Greek God.\u00a0<\/b>(NOT He resembles to a Greek God.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Before next, last etc.<\/h3>\n<p>Prepositions are not used before a number of expressions beginning next, last, this, that, one, every, each, some, any and all.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>See you\u00a0<b>next Sunday.\u00a0<\/b>(NOT \u2026on next Sunday.)<\/li>\n<li>Come\u00a0<b>any day\u00a0<\/b>you like.<\/li>\n<li>We met\u00a0<b>one Friday\u00a0<\/b>in June.<\/li>\n<li>The party lasted\u00a0<b>all night.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Before what time\u2026?<\/h3>\n<p>We usually leave out<b>\u00a0at<\/b>\u00a0before<b>\u00a0what time<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>What time\u00a0<\/b>does her train arrive? (More natural than At what<br \/>\ntime \u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In an informal style,\u00a0<b>at\u00a0<\/b>is often dropped before\u00a0<b>about + time expression.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I will see you\u00a0<b>(at) about 5 o\u2019clock.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Measurement expressions after be<\/h3>\n<p>Expressions containing words like height, weight, length, size, shape, age and colour are usually connected to the subject of the clause by the verb\u00a0<b>be<\/b>, without a preposition.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She\u00a0<b>is the same age\u00a0<\/b>as me.(NOT \u2026 of the same age as me.)<\/li>\n<li>What\u00a0<b>colour are her eyes?\u00a0<\/b>(NOT Of what colour \u2026)<\/li>\n<li>I\u00a0<b>am the same weight\u00a0<\/b>as I was ten years ago. (NOT I am of the same weight &#8230;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Before home<\/h3>\n<p>We do not use\u00a0<b>to<\/b>\u00a0before\u00a0<b>home<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Let us\u00a0<b>go home.\u00a0<\/b>(NOT \u2026 go to home.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In informal English,\u00a0<b>at<\/b>\u00a0can be left out before home.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is anybody (at) home?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We do not use\u00a0prepositions\u00a0in some common expressions.
