(NOT \u2026 a bit\/a lot better \u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Quite\u00a0<\/b>is not normally used with comparatives, but it is possible in the expression\u00a0<b>quite better,\u00a0<\/b>meaning \u2018recovered from an illness\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Superlatives can be modified by\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/much-many-more-most\/\">much<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>by far,\u00a0<\/b>and by other adverbs of degree such as\u00a0<b>quite\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>almost.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She is\u00a0<b>by far the oldest\u00a0<\/b>in the firm.<\/li>\n<li>He is\u00a0<b>quite the most stupid person\u00a0<\/b>I have ever met.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/much-many-more-most\/\">more<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>modifies a plural noun, it is modified by\u00a0<b>many.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>many more opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When\u00a0<b>more\u00a0<\/b>modifies a singular\/uncountable noun, it is modified by\u00a0<b>much.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>much more money<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We cannot use\u00a0very\u00a0with comparatives.
