We use\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/into-out-of\/\"><b>into<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>onto<\/b>\u00a0to talk about directions and destinations \u2013 where things are going.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She is\u00a0<b>in\u00a0<\/b>the bedroom. (Position)<\/li>\n<li>She ran\u00a0<b>into\u00a0<\/b>the room. (Direction)<\/li>\n<li>She was walking\u00a0<b>in\u00a0<\/b>the garden.<\/li>\n<li>Then she walked\u00a0<b>into\u00a0<\/b>the house.<\/li>\n<li>The cat is\u00a0<b>on\u00a0<\/b>the roof again.<\/li>\n<li>How does it get<b>\u00a0onto\u00a0<\/b>the roof?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>In and on for movement<\/h3>\n<p>After some verbs (e.g. throw, jump, push, put) we can use both\u00a0<b>in<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>into<\/b>\u00a0or\u00a0<b>on\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0<b>onto<\/b>\u00a0to talk about directional movement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go and jump\u00a0<b>in\/into\u00a0<\/b>the river.<\/li>\n<li>Could you put the ham\u00a0<b>in\/into<\/b>\u00a0the fridge?<\/li>\n<li>Throw another log\u00a0<b>on\/onto\u00a0<\/b>the fire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We always use\u00a0<b>in<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>on<\/b>\u00a0after\u00a0<i>sit down<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>arrive<\/i>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He sat down\u00a0<b>in<\/b>\u00a0the armchair.
