It is partly a verb and partly an <a href=\"https:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/grammar\/adjectives.htm\">adjective<\/a>. There are two types of participles &#8211; the present participle and the past participle. The present participle is the ing form of the verb. Examples are: <em>singing, working, waiting, listening, playing<\/em> etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The past participle is the third form of the verb. Examples are: <em>sung, worked, waited, listened, played, written, risen<\/em> etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The present participle is used to make continuous tense forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>They are <strong>playing<\/strong>. <\/li><li>You have been <strong>working<\/strong> hard.<\/li><li>She is <strong>looking<\/strong> at something.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The past participle is used to make perfect and passive verb forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>They have <strong>arrived.<\/strong><\/li><li>She has been <strong>informed.<\/strong><\/li><li>The meeting has been <strong>postponed.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The present and past participle are also used as adjectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fill in the blanks with a present or past participle form of the verb. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It is dangerous to get off a &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. train. (exhausting \/exhausted)<\/li><li>The news was &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. (exciting \/ excited)<\/li><li>The children were &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.. about the picnic.
