An adjectival phrase, as with an adjective, describes a noun or a pronoun. An adjectival phrase answers these questions: \u2018Which one?\u2019 or \u2018What kind?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Examples<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She has a fish\u00a0<b>with red gills.<\/b>\u00a0(The adjectival phrase\u00a0<b>\u2018with red gills\u2019<\/b>\u00a0describes the noun\u00a0<b>\u2018fish\u2019<\/b>.)<\/li>\n<li>Something\u00a0<b>in the corner<\/b>\u00a0of the desk was moving. (The adjectival phrase\u00a0<b>\u2018in the corner\u2019\u00a0<\/b>describes the noun\u00a0<b>\u2018something\u2019<\/b>; the adjectival phrase\u00a0<b>\u2018of the desk\u2019<\/b>\u00a0describes the noun\u00a0<b>\u2018corner\u2019<\/b>.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can connect two or more prepositional phrases with a coordinating conjunction like\u00a0<b>and, but, or\u00a0<\/b>or\u00a0<b>yet<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h3>Adverbial phrases<\/h3>\n<p>An\u00a0<b>adverbial phrase<\/b>\u00a0is a prepositional phrase that functions as an adverb. It modifies a <a href=\"http:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/how-to-identify-verbs\/\">verb<\/a>, an <a href=\"http:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/kinds-of-adjectives\/\">adjective<\/a>, or an <a href=\"http:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/blog\/what-are-adverbs\/\">adverb<\/a>. The adverbial phrase answers one of these questions: \u2018Where?\u2019 \u2018When?\u2019 \u2018In what manner?\u2019 \u2018To what extent?\u2019<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The rock climbers arrived late at night. (The adverbial phrase\u00a0<b>\u2018at night\u2019<\/b>\u00a0modifies the adverb\u00a0<b>\u2018late.\u2019<\/b>)<\/li>\n<li>We cheered\u00a0<b>with loud voices<\/b>.
