We use no article when we are thinking about unlimited numbers or quantities, or not thinking about numbers\/quantities at all.<\/p>\n<p>Compare:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have bought\u00a0<b>some eggs.\u00a0<\/b>(Limited quantity)<\/li>\n<li>Do you like\u00a0<b>eggs?\u00a0<\/b>(No idea of number)<\/li>\n<li>Is there\u00a0<b>any milk<\/b>\u00a0in the bottle? (Limited quantity)<\/li>\n<li><b>Milk\u00a0<\/b>has a sweet taste. (No idea of quantity)<\/li>\n<li>We bought\u00a0<b>a lot of apples\u00a0<\/b>yesterday.<\/li>\n<li><b>Apples\u00a0<\/b>are red. (General statement)<\/li>\n<li>I would like\u00a0<b>a little coffee<\/b>, please.<\/li>\n<li>We planted\u00a0<b>some trees<\/b>\u00a0in the garden. (Limited number)<\/li>\n<li>There were\u00a0<b>trees\u00a0<\/b>on either side of the road.
