One day a cat and a fox were having a conversation. The fox, who always thought that he was cleverer than the cat, kept boasting of his abilities. \u2018You know what?\u2019 he said, \u2018I know at least a hundred tricks to escape from our mutual enemies, the dogs.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018That is great,\u2019 said the cat, \u2018You are indeed clever.’<\/p>\n
\u2018How many tricks do you know?\u2019 asked the fox. \u2018I know only one trick to get away from dogs, said the cat. \u2018You should teach me some of yours!\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018Well, maybe someday, when I have time, I may teach you some of the simpler ones,\u2019 replied the fox airily.<\/p>\n
Just then they heard the barking of a pack of dogs in the distance. The barking grew louder and louder – the dogs were coming in their direction! The cat didn\u2019t wait any longer. He ran up to the nearest tree and climbed into its branches and hid himself in the leaves, well out of reach of any dog. ‘This is the trick I told you about, the only one I know,’ he shouted from the tree. \u2018Which one of your hundred tricks are you going to use?<\/p>\n
And that was exactly what the fox was wondering. \u2018Which one of my tricks should I use,\u2019 he thought. And before he could make up his mind, the dogs arrived. They jumped upon the fox and tore him into pieces.<\/p>\n
