Passive forms are not possible when the verb is intransitive. We have learned that an <a href=\"https:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/grammar\/transitive-intransitive.htm\">intransitive verb<\/a> does not have an object. Verbs without objects cannot be used in the passive form. Examples are: sit, cry, smile, arrive, die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can learn about <a href=\"https:\/\/perfectyourenglish.com\/grammar\/passive-voice.htm\">passive voice<\/a> here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She <strong>smiled<\/strong> beautifully. (Active voice)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We cannot change this sentence into passive form because the verb smiled does not have an object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She <strong>sat <\/strong>on the bench. (Active voice)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This sentence cannot be changed into the passive form because the verb sat does not have an object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some transitive verbs are also almost never used in the passive form. Usually these verbs refer to states, not actions. Examples are: <strong>have, resemble, suit, lack<\/strong> etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She has two daughters. (Active voice) (NOT Two daughters are had by her.)<\/li><li>She resembles her mother. (BUT NOT Her mother is resembled by her.)<\/li><li>That colour doesn&#8217;t suit you. (BUT NOT You are not suited by that colour.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some <strong>prepositional verbs<\/strong> are not normally used in the passive form.
