A simple sentence<\/strong> has just one clause and hence it consists of just one finite verb. There are no conjunctions or relative pronouns in a simple sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A complex or a compound sentence<\/strong> will have two or more clauses and hence two or more finite verbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A complex sentence<\/strong> will contain one or more subordinating conjunctions <\/strong>(e.g. because, as, since, if, whether, unless, until, when, after, before, though, although) or relative pronouns<\/strong> (who, which, that, whom, whose).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A compound sentence<\/strong> will contain a coordinating conjunction. (e.g. and, but, or, nor, for, yet, so, either\u2026or, neither\u2026nor, both\u2026and)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
