All of these words express ideas such as concession or contrast. However, they are used in different ways. Though and although<\/a> are conjunctions<\/a> with the same meaning. They are used to connect two clauses expressing contrasting ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However<\/a> is a transitional adverb<\/a>. It does not connect two clauses. Use a full stop or a semicolon before however. Use a comma after however.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite and in spite of <\/a>are prepositions with the same meaning. They are followed by a noun or ing form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
