That means the auxiliary verb comes before the subject. You can use <strong>a past perfect <\/strong>or <strong>simple past<\/strong> after no sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No sooner had she received<\/strong> the parcel than she opened it. (NOT No sooner she had received\u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No sooner did she receive<\/strong> the parcel than she opened it. (NOT No sooner she received the parcel\u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More examples are given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. <strong>No sooner had I reached<\/strong> the station than the train left. (Use the past participle (v3) of the verb after had.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No sooner did I reach<\/strong> the station than the train left. (Use the first form of the verb (v1) after did.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>No sooner had we heard<\/strong> the sound than we rushed to the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No sooner did we hear<\/strong> the sound than we rushed to the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No sooner had she finished<\/strong> the project than she started a new one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No sooner did she finish<\/strong> the project than she started a new one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No sooner had I received<\/strong> her call than I left the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No sooner did I receive<\/strong> her call than I left the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is possible to express the same idea using <strong>hardly\/scarcely&#8230;when.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rewrite the sentences given above using <strong>hardly\/scarcely&#8230;when<\/strong>. Instead of <strong>when<\/strong>, we can use <strong>before<\/strong>.
