A transitive verb takes an object. Examples are given below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I <strong>like <\/strong>animals. (Here the noun animals is the object of the verb like. Hence, like is a transitive verb.)<\/li><li>All mothers <strong>love <\/strong>their children. (Here the noun children is the object of the verb love. Hence, love is a transitive verb.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some verbs cannot have an object. They are called <strong>intransitive verbs.<\/strong> Examples of such verbs are: <em><strong>sleep, sit, smile and laugh.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>He is sleeping. (No object)<\/li><li>Why are you laughing? (No object)<\/li><li>He sat on the bench. (No object)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Most verbs can be used transitively and intransitively. That means sometimes they take objects, and sometimes they do not take objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>She moved the books. (Here moved is a transitive verb because it has an object &#8211; the books)<\/li><li>The curtain moved in the wind.
