Asking For Small Change

Asking for small change

Practice dialogues are a great way to improve your English speaking skills. When you listen to a conversation you familiarize yourself with useful conversational structures and vocabulary. Here is a piece of conversation between a woman and a cashier.

Situation

Anita wants to take the bus, but she is short of small change. So she goes to a shop nearby and asks the cashier if he could help.

Anita: Excuse me?

Cashier: Yes, can I help you?

Anita: Yes. I want to take the bus but I haven’t got any change. Could you give me change for a 500 rupee note?

Cashier: I’m sorry, but we are not allowed to give change.

Anita: Oh. That’s too bad. Is there a bank somewhere around here?

Cashier: There is one across the street.

Anita: Oh. That’s too far. What the heck… I’ll buy some chocolates.
