My dearest Sam

Thank you for your letter. I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy at the boarding school. I can understand why you are feeling homesick. After all, this is the first time you have been away from home. I, too, miss you badly and will be happy to have you home again. But you know what? We can’t have all that we want. Sometimes we have to sacrifice little pleasures to achieve greater success in life.

I know you were happier at home. We were there to take care of your needs and you faced hardly any problems. The situation is altogether different at the boarding school. I know the life of a boarder is not easy, but the boarding school teaches you valuable lessons that will stand you in good stead when you start living on your own. Your dad thinks that all boys should spend a few years at a boarding school to grow into capable men and he knows best.

So my dear boy, be brave and take this as a challenge. I am sure as days pass by, you will begin to enjoy your life at the boarding school. Don’t mind the tricks the boys play on you. When they realize that you don’t care, they will soon get tired of playing pranks on you.

So cheer up and be a brave boy.
