Sentence Type Worksheet for Class 3

State whether the following sentences are statements (declarative), questions (interrogatory), commands (imperative) or exclamatory.

Declarative sentence

A declarative or assertive sentence merely makes a statement. Examples are given below:

  • It is very hot today.
  • She is not very intelligent.
  • You are not my boss.

A declarative sentence always ends with a full stop.

Imperative sentence

An imperative sentence expresses a command, order, request etc. Imperative sentences do not have a subject. They usually end with a full stop,

  • Leave me alone.
  • Let go of him.
  • Don’t tease the dog.
  • Get me out of here.

Exclamatory sentence

An exclamatory sentence expresses a sudden emotion. Exclamatory sentences end with a full stop.

  • How sad!
  • What a terrific performance!

Interrogative sentence

An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark.

  • Who took my phone?
  • Where did you place it?
  • How will be solve this problem?
