Can and Will | Grammar Worksheet for Class 4 and 5
The modal auxiliaries will and can have different uses. Will has the following uses:
Making simple predictions about the future
- It will rain in the evening.
- I will pass the test.
- She will marry him.
- He will come.
Expressing willingness
- I will help you with the housework.
- I will buy the tickets but you have to buy the drinks.
- Will you lend me thousand rupees?
Announcing a spontaneous decision
- Okay, I will lend you thousand rupees.
- ‘I’m thirsty.’ ‘I will get you something to drink.’
The modal auxiliary ‘can’ has the following uses.
Making a request
- Can you help me sort this out?
- Can you get me something to eat?
- Can you open the window?
Asking for permission
- Can I borrow your car for a day?
- Can I go now?
- Can I come in, teacher?
Expressing ability
- I can speak English well.
- She can write with both hands.
- He can make delicious pasta.
