Advertisement for a Baby Sitter | IELTS Letter Sample

You have seen an advertisement in an Australian magazine for someone to live with a family for six months and look after their six-year-old child.

Write a letter to the parents. In your letter,

• explain why you would like the job
• give details of why you would be a suitable person to employ
• say how you would spend your free time while you are in Australia

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Here is a sample letter on this topic.

I am writing to formally apply for the position of a baby sitter you advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday. I believe that I have the required qualifications.

I am currently enrolled in a part course at the University of Sydney. I am pursuing Masters in Child Psychology. It is a part time course so I am free in the morning from 6 am to 12 noon. I can babysit your child during that time. I will be available full time on the weekends.

I believe I am the perfect fit for the job as I have 2 years of experience in a similar role. Also I am a registered baby sitter and hold all certificates that are legally required to be a care taker of a minor. I have been actively looking for a part time job after arriving in Sydney because it will help me earn some money to pay my tuition fee.   

I am relatively new to this city and so in my free time I would love to explore the rich culture and experience all the fun and adventure Australia has to offer.

This is a good letter. The writer has addressed all the bullet points in the task rubric. The language and tone are appropriate for a formal letter. There are very few grammar mistakes. This seems to be in the band 8.5 to 9 range.
