Finite And Non-Finite Verbs Worksheet For Class 8 With Answers

A finite verb changes its form according to the number and person of its subject. For example, in the simple present tense, if the subject is a singular noun or pronoun, a finite verb takes the marker -s.

  • She sings well. (The finite verb sing becomes sings when the subject is a singular noun / pronoun.)
  • They sing well. (When the subject is a plural noun / pronoun, the verb does not take -s.)

A non-finite verb does not change its form when the subject changes.

  • I want to sing.
  • She wants to sing.
  • You want to sing.
  • Rahul wanted to sing.

As you can see, the verb want has different forms in different tenses. Hence, it is a finite verb. The verb to sing remains the same in all tenses. It does not change when the number or person of the subject changes. Hence, it is a non-finite verb.
