Identify The Type Of The Sentence | Class 4 English Grammar Worksheet

This English grammar worksheet is designed for students of classes 3 and 4. It tests their ability to identify the different types of sentences in English.

English has four types of sentences: Declarative, Imperative, Exclamatory, Interrogative

A declarative sentence simply makes a statement. It can be affirmative or negative. Examples are given below.

  • My father is 75.
  • Cats kill mice.
  • She doesn’t work here.

Declarative sentences have a full stop at the end.

  • An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark.
  • Who is your father?
  • What are you doing there?
  • Who do they make cheese?

An imperative sentence is an order, a command, a request or an appeal. An imperative sentence ends with a full stop. Examples are:

  • Leave me alone.
  • Close the door.
  • Don’t just stand there. Do something.

An exclamatory sentence expresses a sudden emotion. It ends with an exclamation mark.

  • What a pity!
  • How sad!
