Active and passive voice exercise 2

A sentence has been given in Active/Passive Voice. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Passive/Active voice.

An example is given below.

1. The teacher punished the boy for lying.

a) The boy punished by the teacher for lying.

b) The boy was punished by the teacher for lying.

c) The boy had been punished by the teacher for lying.

d) The teacher had been punishing the boy for lying.

Answer: option b)

Explanation

When the active verb is in the simple past tense, we make the passive form by putting was/were before the past participle form of the verb. Thus ‘punished’ becomes ‘was/were punished’ in the passive voice.
